| MATCH WEEK 1: KNACKERS TAKE THE EARLY PLAUDITS |
Our Top Nightmare on the opening weekend was new Villa signing Joao Gomes which a whopping 38 points. According to the pre-match press conference, he wasn't even supposed to be fit. As a Wolves player, Gomes was last season's 6th top Nightmare with 222 points and got his Villa Nightmare career off to a flying start. 1 point for playing, 4 for four goals conceded, 3 for an attacking clean sheet, 6 for a 4/10 performance rating, 12 for a red card and 12 more for a Nightmare Gift. David Smith must be the most distraught manager of our opening week, leaving Gomes on his bench. Of course, he'll miss three games now though.
John-Paul Meredith was the one manager rejoicing with Joao's 38 inspiring Hextable Hackers to a cool 100 points. That's a point short of taking the Manager of the Week trophy - that goes to Robert Metzger with 101 points. Robert hit the biggest player points score of the week with the inspired choice of own-goal scoring Victor Lindelof as captain, with 22 doubled to 44. Lucas Bergvall (17) and Celeb Yirenkyi (13) also hit big, while Robert manages to take the MotW trophy despite being two men short and having the worst player on show in Maxim de Cuyper (-12). |
| CAPTAINS GOOD AND BAD |
With some interesting results and performances out there - a Hull clean sheet with goals from two defenders perhaps the most notable - the success of your opening week could well have been defined by your captain pick. Robert picked the top captain in Lindelof (22=44) and there were some other good choices out there. Milan van Ewijk returned 28 points for three managers, Calvin Bassey and Carl Rushworth returned 26 for three, Timothy Castagne 24 for one.
10 managers, however, picked up negatives from their captains. Worst of all, Noel Mendy for David Metzger (-9 doubled to -18). Ouch. Not going to lie, I had Mendy as captain myself but decided to play safe with a Coventry boy that I knew would start, once I saw the opening night's team sheets in advance of our deadline. Hull keeper Tzolakis hit Rosalie Pearson for -8 and there were -6s for six more managers, mostly Hull defenders. |
