NightmareSoccer SPL - end of season report

SCANTIPODEAN CROWNED OVERALL CHAMPIONS

Congratulations to Scantipodean Albion who are the Overall Champions of NightmareSoccer SPL 2008/9 with 965 points. That's the exact same total amassed by last season's SPL winners, though their margin of victory is significantly higher. Last season's Champs finished only 5 points ahead of the team in 2nd, while this season's runners-up Up For The Shirt would only have finished 9th with their total of 835.

Albion completed a domestic clean-sweep this season, winning all three trophies they were in for. As the highest scorers they obviously won their division Numptys League Division One - where they won the League by a massive 270 points - and they also secured the Sweet-FA Cup and the Numptys League Worthless Cup. Manager Peter W got it right pretty much from the start - throughout the entire season he only made 2 transfers, and Albion finished with an impressive 6 players scoring over 100 points.

HEARTS FLOP TOP NIGHTMARE

This season's biggest Scottish Nightmare is Hearts forward Christian Nade who totalled a healthy 154 points in his second season in Scotland; to add to the 106 points he scored in his first. While impressive, 154 is actually the lowest score to be the highest total in a season in the 8 seasons of NightmareSoccer SPL. A lack of goals and a dismal average performance rating of 5.63/10 led to Nade coming top ahead of Michael Higdon (138) and David Fernandez (136).

The season's worst Nightmare is Rangers defender Madjid Bougherra whose debut season ended with -27 points. Maurice Edu is 2nd with -11 points from 14 full games while Aberdeen's on-loan Man City defender Javan Vidal also made 14 full appearances and he is 3rd with -9.

FOWLER GOES TOP IN ALL-TIME LIST

Long-time leader of the all-time Top Nightmares list Gary Mason achieved his lowest ever season total this season with 67 points. Meanwhile his closest challenger for the accolade, James Fowler, scored 109 and this has resulted in Fowler taking over at the top of the all-time list with 831 points. Mason is 2nd on 817, followed by Darren Mackie in 3rd (791, 108 this season), and Colin Nish in 4th (685, 104 this season). Darren Young (675) slips to 5th after a second season in which he has played no part.

LARSSON STILL BOTTOM

There's no change at the bottom of the all-time list with Henrik Larsson still 'out in front' on -143. Lorenzo Amoruso is 2nd (-110), followed by Craig Moore (-73), Bobo Balde (-72) and Stan Varga (-68). The nearest positional change to the bottom of the list sees Madjid Bougherra a new entry at 11th following his -27 point debut season. The lowest players on the list that played this season and at least one previous season are Stevie Smith in 31st (3 points; 8 this season) and Neil Alexander 34th (5; -3 this season).
